New Orleans is the Most Romantic City in the Country

Yes, we have made a bold claim there, and we know many of you will agree. But, for those of you who are not convinced, here are five romantic things you can do while visiting us in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

Take a leisurely stroll down the Moon Walk.

On one side, barges roll slowly by on the mighty Mississippi. On the other, you’ll find the St. Louis Cathedral standing tall and elegant in Jackson Square. Ahead, you will notice the impressive buildings in the New Orleans Central Business District. This is the Moon Walk, a paved promenade that’s part of the riverside Woldenberg Park at the edge of the French Quarter. It is by far one of New Orleans’ most romantic places to take a stroll, especially at sunset.

And, you will usually pass several street musicians playing a sax or guitar which only adds to the lovely ambience of Moon Walk.

Have drinks by candlelight.

A cocktail-based romantic rendezvous is another old standby that New Orleans does better than anywhere else. If this is your style, meet your sweetie in the Jackson Square and choose from a multitude of options such as Muriel’s or Sylvain. Many local bars and restaurants create unique in-house concoctions that you won’t find anywhere else.

Take a carriage ride around the French Quarter.

If you have had your fill of walking for the day, enjoy a ride on one of the famous carriages that line up in front of Jackson Square on Decatur Street. The carriages are actually pulled by mules which fare better in the sticky New Orleans heat than horses. Enjoy the sites and rest your feet.

Take a Haunted Ghost Tour.

What better way to get close to your sweetie than on an exciting ghost tour? I know a wonderful French Quarter tour company that will offer a 10% discount if you mention this blog. 🙂

Have your fortune told.

Is it true love? Find out by getting your cards read. You can find card and palm readers in Jackson Square late into the evening, or you can have a reading at places like Marie Laveaux‘s House of Voodoo, Voodoo Authentica, or Bottom of the Cup Tea Room.

N orma Wallace, a name that evokes intrigue and fascination, was a prominent figure in New Orleans during the early and mid-20th century. As a powerful and resourceful madam, she operated a network of brothels that thrived despite the constant threat of law enforcement. Beginning in 1920, she would operate brothels for the next 45 years, a span that has not been beaten in the history of New Orleans.
